Open day GREENO2

The recent Open Day organised by AKSiM (College of Social and Media Culture in Torun) on the GREENO2 project marked an international exchange of best practices and innovative visions for urban sustainability, highlighting the key role of nature-based solutions and university education in promoting greener, more resilient cities.

The event, held on December 13, 2024 was hosted by the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń, Poland, on December 13, 2024, brought together researchers, urban planners, and professionals focused on green roofs and climate adaptation strategies for urban environments. Sessions in both Polish and English explored environmental challenges such as urban air pollution, climate change mitigation, and green infrastructure as tools for urban regeneration.

URWAN’s participation at the ANCI Lazio Open Day connected European experiences with local Italian realities, fostering dialogue between transnational knowledge and municipal practice. As the lead partner of URWAN – Urban Regenerative Water Avant-garde(N), ANCI Lazio aims to enhance urban sustainability through innovative water management and the expansion of green spaces, leveraging Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and community engagement in co-designing resilient urban strategies.

Key URWAN contributions at the Open Day highlighted:

  • Integrated natural solutions for sustainable water management and urban resilience;

  • NbS catalogues to support local authorities in selecting and adapting green strategies;

  • Active community involvement as a cornerstone of urban regeneration.

A highlight of the event was the intervention of international experts, including Prof. Andrea Colantoni (University of Tuscia), who presented the state of the art of the Green Roof Prototype for Higher Education Institutions, bridging university research with practical green design.

This collaboration exemplifies the synergy between two complementary initiatives:

  • GREENO2, a European project promoting green roofs as hubs for research, participation, and environmental awareness in universities;

  • URWAN, a transnational project experimenting with sustainable solutions for Mediterranean cities, enhancing urban ecosystems and smart water management.

As an associated partner of ANCI Lazio for URWAN, the University of Tuscia contributes to strengthening the dialogue between research, innovation, and local administrations, driving cities toward greener, more resilient, and sustainable futures.
