The renovation works of the former pre-primary school building in Cuba have officially begun, marking an important milestone for the URWAN – Urban Regenerative Water Avant-garde(N) project.
Promoted by Make it Better, with the support of the Municipality of Cuba, this intervention aims to transform the building into an emblematic space for sustainable innovation, showcasing the benefits of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in addressing urban and environmental challenges.
The project embraces the principles of the New European Bauhaus, combining sustainability, functionality, aesthetics, and inclusion. The renovation seeks to respond to key local challenges, including water scarcity, climate change, urban quality of life, and community well-being.
The intervention includes the implementation of sustainable rainwater and wastewater management systems, vertical gardens to improve thermal comfort and biodiversity, and rain gardens designed to enhance infiltration and reduce runoff.
This milestone represents the beginning of a broader transformation process that will involve the local community and partner organizations in shaping a more resilient and sustainable future for the area.
