Students Transform School Playground Through StartPark Co-Creation Workshop

30/04/2026

On 30 April 2026, Make it Better organised a StartPark co-creation workshop at the School of Cuba, as part of the URWAN project.

With the support of the School of Cuba, AMCAL, ZERO, and the Municipality of Cuba, students actively participated in a range of practical activities focused on biodiversity, sustainability, and the regeneration of the school environment, transforming the playground into a living learning laboratory.

The activities included the installation of a Miyawaki microforest, promoting biodiversity and the creation of a more resilient green space, as well as the installation of a composter, introducing students to circular economy practices and the valorisation of the school’s organic waste.

The action included the planting of 87 trees, representing 10 different species, the installation of one composter, and the active participation of students in waste collection and sorting. The intervention covered an area of approximately 13,000 m² and involved 126 students and 11 teachers.

The workshop provided a hands-on learning experience based on collaboration and collective action, contributing to the creation of a greener and more sustainable school playground.
