On 11 June 2026 (09:00–13:00), the URWAN project will host its Final Event and a dedicated side session in Brussels, coordinated by ANCI Lazio and held at the Lazio Region Office.
Titled “Democratic Water Landscapes: co-creating inclusive green spaces with water at the core”, the event will present the main outputs of the URWAN project and explore how urban green and blue infrastructures can be reimagined as democratic and inclusive landscapes, where water, nature, and communities interact through participatory design, co-creation processes, and innovative governance approaches.
The event will open with institutional greetings from the Lazio Region Administration and ANCI Lazio, followed by the official opening by Antonella Sberna, Vice-President of the European Parliament.
The first session (09:30–10:30) will showcase key URWAN project outputs, including:
- the URWAN Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Catalogue and Investment Framework (IRIDRA);
- the Integrated Decision Support System for NbS (Kassandra project);
- the Start Park co-design tool (SVI.MED.);
- the NbS Enabler Pack and Checklist (MedCities).
This will be followed by an interactive group exercise (10:30–11:30) focused on co-designing an urban green area using the Start Park tool, facilitated by IRIDRA.
After a networking coffee break (11:30–11:45), the roundtable session (11:45–12:45), moderated by Bernard Massabo (Interreg Euro-MED Institutional Dialogue – Green Living Areas), will explore URWAN’s legacy and transferability. It will bring together representatives from FEDARENE, the City of Sarajevo, the Municipality of Ptuj, the Municipality of Cuba, the City of Málaga, the Energy and Environment Agency of Arrábida, and the City of Torino, sharing perspectives on implementation and scaling-up of nature-based solutions across Europe and the Mediterranean.
The event will conclude with a wrap-up by Judith Cazas (Interreg Euro-MED Programme Officer) and final conclusions by Danilo Ceh (Interreg Euro-MED Green Living Areas Community).
In the afternoon (14:00–18:00), participants will visit the New European Bauhaus Festival, engaging with concrete experiences and case studies aligned with URWAN’s approach. The visit will highlight innovative practices in urban regeneration, community engagement, and environmental sustainability, linking local experimentation with broader European policy frameworks.
Overall, the event will serve as a platform for exchange, reflection, and networking among policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and cities involved in the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, contributing to the ongoing debate on how to shape more resilient, inclusive, and water-sensitive urban environments in Europe.
